प्रमुख खनिज – लौह अयस्क (Iron Ore) 1. भूमिका भारत खनिज संसाधनों की दृष्टि से एक महत्वपूर्ण देश है। यहाँ लौह अयस्क, कोयला, बॉक्साइट, मैंगनीज, अभ्रक, चूना-पत्थर आदि अनेक खनिज पाए जाते हैं। इनमें लौह अयस्क (Iron Ore) का विशेष आर्थिक एवं औद्योगिक महत्त्व है, क्योंकि यह लौह एवं इस्पात उद्योग (Iron and Steel Industry) का प्रमुख कच्चा माल है। भारत में लौह अयस्क के प्रमुख भंडार मुख्यतः प्रायद्वीपीय पठार के प्राचीन कठोर शैलों वाले क्षेत्रों में पाए जाते हैं। 2. लौह अयस्क का अर्थ लौह अयस्क ऐसी खनिजयुक्त चट्टान या खनिज पदार्थ है जिसमें पर्याप्त मात्रा में लौह (Iron) पाया जाता है और जिससे आर्थिक रूप से लौह निकाला जा सकता है। लौह का रासायनिक संकेत है: Fe = Iron (लौह) लौह अयस्क मुख्यतः लौह के विभिन्न ऑक्साइडों के रूप में पाया जाता है। 3. लौह अयस्क के प्रमुख प्रकार भारत में मुख्यतः निम्न प्रकार के लौह अयस्क पाए जाते हैं— 1. हेमेटाइट (Hematite) रासायनिक सूत्र: Fe₂O₃ लौह की सैद्धांतिक मात्रा लगभग 70% भारत में सबसे महत्वपूर्ण लौह अयस्कों में से एक। औद्योगिक दृष्टि से अत्यंत उपयोगी। रंग: लाल/भूरा --- 2. ...
