भाखड़ा नंगल परियोजना भारत की सबसे प्रसिद्ध और विशाल बहुउद्देशीय नदी घाटी परियोजनाओं में से एक है। यह परियोजना सतलज नदी पर बनाई गई है, जो हिमाचल प्रदेश के बिलासपुर जिले में स्थित भाखड़ा गाँव के पास निर्मित की गई है। यह भारत की स्वतंत्रता के बाद प्रारंभ की गई पहली बड़ी परियोजनाओं में से एक है जिसे “नए भारत का मंदिर” कहा गया था।
निर्माण एवं स्थान :
स्थान: भाखड़ा बाँध हिमाचल प्रदेश के बिलासपुर जिले में स्थित है।
नंगल बाँध: यह पंजाब राज्य में भाखड़ा बाँध से लगभग 13 किलोमीटर नीचे स्थित है।
निर्माण कार्य प्रारंभ: सन् 1948 में
पूर्णता: सन् 1963 में
उद्घाटन: सन् 1963 में तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू द्वारा किया गया।

3. नंगल बाँध (Nangal Dam):
यह एक सहायक बाँध है जो भाखड़ा बाँध से निकलने वाले जल को नियंत्रित करता है।
इससे नंगल नहर प्रणाली का निर्माण किया गया है जो सिंचाई के लिए जल प्रदान करती है।

यह बाँध सतलज नदी की बाढ़ों को नियंत्रित करता है।
पंजाब क्षेत्र में बाढ़ की समस्या को काफी हद तक कम किया गया है।
4. मत्स्य पालन (Fishery):
गोबिंद सागर झील में मत्स्य पालन एक महत्वपूर्ण आर्थिक गतिविधि बन गई है।
5. पर्यटन (Tourism)
भाखड़ा बाँध और गोबिंद सागर झील पर्यटन स्थल के रूप में प्रसिद्ध हैं।
